About the Rwanda Agroforestry Dashboard

Welcome to the Agroforestry Dashboard for Rwanda, developed by World Agroforestry (ICRAF) Spatial Data Science and Applied Learning (SPACIAL) lab for the Rwanda Forestry Authority and funded by the European Union.

This dashboard is a dedicated tool designed to assist the Rwanda Forestry Authority in monitoring and managing national restoration efforts. It provides comprehensive data on past restoration efforts, biodiversity, climate variables, and land health to support informed decision-making. Key features include monitoring of reforestation and agroforestry activities which can be used to report on its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) regarding land restoration. The dashboard offers a user-friendly interface for stakeholders to access and utilize data effectively.

Data: The main source of restoration information on this dashboard was collected through the citizen-science mobile application: the Regreening App, created by the World Agroforestry (ICRAF) SPACIAL team. This mobile application has been used in Rwanda to track on-the-ground progress of several land restoration projects. Additionally, this dashboard makes use of various remotely sensed data, in combination with thousands of soil and vegetation ground-truth data from the ICRAF database, to predict ecosystem properties such as tree cover, soil organic carbon and erosion prevalence for Rwanda. The ICRAF database on vegetation and soil indicators was collected under the Land Degradation and Surveillance Framework (LDSF).

Data Disclaimer: The data presented in this dashboard comes from various restoration and agroforestry projects implemented across Rwanda. Please note that there may be overlap in the data where multiple projects operate in the same areas. Also, the tree planting numbers shown represent initial planting efforts. As with any restoration project, not all planted trees survive to maturity. The survival rates are tracked separately where available.
